Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Report 2013

A regional analysis of the situation of out-of-school children

Highlights

This study was commissioned as one of several regional studies to provide a critical analysis of the system at all levels, in terms of statistics on school participation, as well as enabling factors including policy, planning and implementation that enable us to better understand the remaining challenges within the region to ensuring universal access to quality education.

This regional analysis is one of five initial studies carried out in the region. The other studies were at the country level in Zambia, Mozambique, Ethiopia and South Sudan. Further studies will be facilitated throughout the region in 2013 and beyond. Such studies should be core to situation analyses in all countries and help guide sector-review processes.
